Cafe History

In 2010, after years of passing Gorran Haven’s empty and rundown Reading Room on the coast-path to Vault beach, an idea sprang into life. This fine old building had many uses since it was built in 1909 (see History ) – Village Reading Room, Playgroup venue, temporary classroom and even a fundraising centre during WWII – but what an ideal  spot for a Cafe! The new Chair of the adjacent village hall supported the idea and suggested we start a Cafe in the hall until our current building was ready. After a lot of hard work from local volunteers, the space you now see was refurbished and in 2011 the building had yet another lease of life.

Today’s Coast Path Cafe, which was started by three people, is a co-operative with twenty seven local members.

We have several aims:                                                                                              To promote fresh locally sourced and homemade food.

To showcase village art and crafts

To be the information point for the local area.   And to provide a friendly, welcoming and inclusive environment both for local people and visitors to our village
